Adam’s work has moved across engineering, trial practice, firm leadership, and legal software design. Each stage has reinforced the same preference for careful systems, clear writing, and direct responsibility.
Adam grew up in Portland and began studying electrical engineering at Oregon State University in 1993. After three years in Corvallis, he transferred to the University of Colorado Boulder and completed his engineering degree. He then spent six years working as an electrical engineer, principally at Intel in Hillsboro.
In 2002, while still working full time at Intel, Adam entered the evening program at Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark College. The schedule demanded the same habits that had served him in engineering: preparation, close attention to detail, and the ability to work through complicated systems without losing sight of their practical purpose.
Adam left Intel in 2004 to clerk at Swanson, Thomas & Coon, where he worked with lawyers handling workers’ compensation, family law, litigation, and legal writing. He later served at Multnomah Defenders as a certified law student, appearing for clients in misdemeanor trials, arraignments, motions, and DUII diversion proceedings.
After graduating and joining the Oregon State Bar in 2006, Adam co-founded West Valley Law Group in Corvallis. His work there included criminal defense, civil litigation, and family law. He later returned to Portland and developed an extensive family-law practice through Brittle & Brittle P.C. and Pacific Family Law Firm, while continuing to handle contested hearings, trials, and appeals.
Adam has handled matters in Oregon trial courts and appellate courts, including argument before the Oregon Supreme Court.
In 2014, Adam argued and filed the respondent’s brief in J. A. H. v. Heikkila, an en banc Oregon Supreme Court case addressing the service requirements for appellate jurisdiction. The court affirmed the order in favor of Adam’s client.
J. A. H. v. Heikkila, 355 Or 753, 333 P3d 275 (2014) (opens in a new tab)Years in family-law litigation convinced Adam that effective representation does not require making every disagreement louder. He works to identify the issues that truly require a decision, draft terms that reduce future ambiguity, and keep conflict from consuming the people and children involved. That approach does not avoid necessary advocacy. It reserves litigation for disputes that actually need it.
Adam designed and built Unlink Legal from the ground up as an Oregon-specific platform for uncontested divorce. It combines guided intake, detailed settlement drafting, parenting-plan and property-division tools, county filing information, and attorney review. The project reflects his view that cooperative families should have a structured option between generic forms and fully contested representation.
About Unlink Legal (opens in a new tab)The same patience and consistency Adam values in legal work also shape his life outside the office.

Much of his time outside work is spent supporting their competitive dance and league volleyball training and tournaments.
